Storrs, CT
- The Kagan Company – 1992-2000
Over the course of 8 years The Kagan Company developed 3 new buildings for the University of Connecticut, Storrs campus. These involved an orchestra rehearsal building, a music library and photography building. The challenge was to construct 3 new buildings attached to the existing Fine Arts classroom buildings creating a series of buildings that one could walk from end to end without having to go outside. Utilizing precast concrete panels, metal panels and glass curtain walls we integrated the new buildings into the existing brick classroom buildings. Allowing for a look that is modern and expressive while complimenting the existing buildings. Creating site lines between the various buildings that extend along the length of the street and an incline, the new and existing buildings step up a gradual hillside. The new buildings also created a courtyard for the Fine Arts Campus, giving it an identity and a sense of space.
